FocusFlow — Productivity Chrome Extension

01The Challenge

Developers and knowledge workers have no shortage of productivity apps, but most are either too complex (requiring accounts, subscriptions, syncing), too simple (just a timer), or not designed for the browser-based workflows that developers actually use. Prodevel built FocusFlow as a free, privacy-first tool that runs entirely in the browser — no account, no data leaving the device — and doubles as a showcase of Prodevel's frontend and UX capabilities.

02The Solution

FocusFlow is built as a Chrome Manifest V3 extension using React and TypeScript. The Pomodoro timer module integrates with Chrome's background service worker for accurate timing even when the popup is closed. The focus mode component uses the Chrome declarativeNetRequest API to block distracting sites during focus sessions, with a customisable allowlist. The task module stores work items in IndexedDB with priority and deadline support. The analytics dashboard visualises daily and weekly focus patterns using lightweight SVG charts — no external charting library dependency.
