01The Challenge
HealthPlus operates 12 GP practices across London. Patients were managing appointments via phone calls only, resulting in long wait times and a 22% no-show rate. The practice managers needed a mobile solution that could handle appointment booking, repeat prescription requests, and secure messaging — while remaining compliant with NHS DSP Toolkit requirements and GDPR. Previous off-the-shelf solutions had been rejected due to data residency concerns.
02The Solution
Prodevel built a React Native app for iOS and Android with offline-first architecture. The backend uses Node.js with a MongoDB data layer, hosted on AWS UK region to satisfy NHS data residency requirements. Biometric authentication (Face ID / fingerprint) replaces password entry. The appointment module integrates with HealthPlus's existing EMIS Web system via a custom middleware API. Repeat prescription requests trigger automated workflow notifications for GP review. End-to-end encryption is applied to all patient-provider messages.
